6 Steps to a Full Body Reset
1. Start with a Fast
Fasting after the holidays is an excellent way to fast-track health goals for the new year. Fasting gives your digestive system a break after indulgent meals, allowing your body to reset. It can help stabilize blood sugar levels and reduce bloating from excess sugar, alcohol, or processed foods. In addition to digestion, fasting can help improve focus and mental clarity, which is essential when setting new year’s resolutions and remaining steadfast to the newly set goals.
When it comes to fasting, everyone’s body is different. Personally, after the holidays I return to intermittent fasting. Intermittent fasting is a popular fasting mechanism that includes fasting for 16 hours and eating your meals in the remaining 8-hour window. The 16 hour fast supports calorie regulation and allows your body to focus on the much needed post-holiday recovery. Once my body adjusts to the intermittent fasting, I plan a 24 hour fast. A 24 hour fast encourages the use of stored fat for energy, which can aid in weight management and the body initiates autophagy, a process where cells remove damaged components and regenerate, promoting overall health. (There are many benefits to fasting but that’s for another article)
2. Hydration Nation
Hydration plays a crucial role in the body’s natural detoxification processes. If your body isn’t properly hydrated, we cannot begin the post-holiday reset. Drink at least 64 oz of water when you begin your reset, I also like to supplement my water intake with a glass of watermelon juice. Watermelon juice is extremely hydrating and provides the body with natural electrolytes, plus it’s delicious! In addition to oral hydration, I add IV drips to my reset week. I request additional supplements in my IV bag, to aid in the detoxification and renewal process. Glutathione is one of my personal favorites.
3. Sweat
Sweating allows your body to expel water-soluble toxins, including small amounts of heavy metals, alcohol byproducts, and metabolic waste. Sweating stimulates the lymphatic system to assist in removing cellular waste and toxins from the tissues. An additional step I like to add is dry brushing. Dry brushing improves blood circulation and exfoliates the skin to allow for better excretion. Working out is an obvious choice when we want to sweat out the holiday toxins and debloat. When I want to have a sweaty workout I wear a heavy sweater and opt for cardio, after completing my workout I will sit in the sauna and continue to detoxify until I feel like I have sweat enough that day. If I’m having a lazy girl day but still want to stick to my goals and sweat, I’ll fix myself a detox tub. A detox tub is a bath designed to promote relaxation, eliminate toxins, and improve overall well-being. It typically involves soaking in a tub filled with warm water and ingredients known for their detoxifying properties. I typically fill my tub with the hottest water I can handle, baking soda, Epsom salts, herbal teas and essential oils.
3. Supplements
Okay, so I take supplements year-round but when I do a full body reset, I’m a bit stricter (meaning I try not to forget to take them lol) and sometimes I’ll add a few extras. Here are the supplements that make me feel my best and help detoxify the body.
- Raw Manuka Honey: Literal honey with superpowers. It aids in digestion by acting as a prebiotic, promoting the growth of healthy gut bacteria and helps combat infections and inhibits the growth of harmful bacteria, including certain antibiotic-resistant strains.
- Juna Detox Drops: Chlorophyll is often touted for its detoxification properties due to its unique chemical structure and ability to interact with toxins in the body. It helps increase the production of enzymes involved in detoxification, particularly those that neutralize harmful substances. Chlorophyll is also rich in antioxidants, which helps combat oxidative stress and protect cells from damage caused by the holiday season.
- NUE Skin Filter: the perfect added supplement to restore skin health after the holidays. Loaded with zinc and vitamin A, this supplement is like an ingestible retinol.
- NUE Pre+Probiotic: duh. A good daily pre+probiotic supplement is essential. Prebiotics and probiotics play a significant role in supporting detoxification by enhancing gut health, which is central to the body’s natural detox processes.
5. Mental Clarity
The mind is the most crucial component to the full body reset. If your mind isn’t on board, the body won’t follow. The new year is the perfect time to reset, reflect, and reimagine; set goals, boundaries, and intentions for this next chapter. Here are my best mental clarity practices for a reset.
- journal: Write down key moments from the previous year—your achievements, challenges, and lessons learned. List things you’re thankful for to start the year on a positive note. Identify and let go of any habits, thoughts, or relationships that no longer serve you. Identify this year’s goals and how you will achieve them.
- Declutter: Clear out your workspace, home, and digital files. A tidy environment fosters mental clarity. Meditate, practice mindfulness or guided meditations to quiet mental noise. Eliminate digital distractions by deleting unnecessary apps, limiting your tech time, or even doing a digital detox.
- Personal Time: We overdose on family time during the holidays. We have activities planned nearly every night, decorating, shopping, prepping, planning, and partying. After the holidays I enjoy taking time to myself to focus on my newly set goals and really hustle. I detox from social events and work towards the life I promised myself.
6. Extra Sleep
If you know my husband and I, you know that we take our nighttime routine very seriously. There is nothing more important than a good nighttime routine to set the mood and get sleepy! We both have very busy schedules so it’s important that we dedicate a few hours each night to winding down and clearing our minds prior to bedtime. Here are some tactics that have helped us!
- Magnesium Gut Barrier and tart cherry juice sleepy girl mocktail: this cocktail really has been a game changer. It relaxes our muscles, slows our heart rate, helps our gut recover, and really relaxes us while we get ready for bed.
- Prepare: prior to going to bed I write my three priorities down for the next day. When I have a gameplan for the next day it allows me to turn my mind off and rest for the night.
- Sex: who doesn’t sleep better after an orgasm?
- Blue Lotus Tea: this is our next liquid of the night. We have teatime in bed; it’s my very favorite part of our nighttime routine. Also, blue lotus tea literally knocks me out and it helps open your third eye chakra which is key to healing dreams and creative thinking.
- Blue light glasses: some nights we watch tv during tea time and if we do that then we make sure we wear our favorite blue light glasses. Blue light glasses help shield your eyes from blue light which has been linked to the suppression of melatonin in the evening.
Happy New Years and Happy Healing!
