Our Sweet Escape: Experience La Cata Del Mar
The end of winter is a difficult time in New England. We were craving the sun so my husband and I took a last-minute trip to Mexico. We told everyone we were on a work trip, but really, we were just decompressing on the beach. Our week was filled with inspiration. We reconnected with nature, we came out of hibernation and socialized with others trying to escape the snow, I caught up on some reading, and we found our zen in the spa.
We ventured off one afternoon and took the loveliest stroll along the shore, which ended with the highlight of our trip. We stopped at the marina, Marina Riviera Nayarit at La Cruz, to admire the old couples in their yachts, living their best retired lives. I’m obsessed with cute old couples. As we continued on, we ended up at a bustling fish market. In the fish market, we found our hidden gem!
The hidden gem was a small restaurant called La Cata Del Mar. We were instantly impressed. It was located in the heart of the fish market, so it was the perfect collision of entertainment from local fishermen and private dinning from the incredible staff. The family-owned restaurant was proud to explain the dynamic of the restaurant and the freshest items on the menu (which was basically everything because everything was from the fish market that we were sitting in; and the fish were being taken off the boat right in front of us). Everything looked incredible so my husband and I got a few different dishes to share. While we were waiting for our food we talked about the hospitality and pride that exuded this community. I mean come on, they crafted some unique cocktails for us after we told them the flavors and liquors we enjoyed. The creativity and effort we experienced was rare to find where we lived. The atmosphere in this fish market reminded us of the little luxuries and enhanced our love for life at that moment. It was a gentle reminder to take pride in our crafts, nourish our bodies with only the freshest of foods, and the art of hosting. By the time we finished our ceviche, we had plans on buying property near this fish market so we could experience it on a regular basis. Next time you’re in Riviera Nayarit, be sure to experience La Cata Del Mar-the restaurant that was able to pull my husband and I out of our seasonal rutt and restore our love for the little things in life.
