Scalp Status: Experience a Scalp Transformation

Scalp spas have their roots in various ancient practices that focus on holistic wellness. Many cultures have long recognized the importance of scalp health. Techniques such as acupressure and Ayurvedic practices emphasize the balance of energy in the body, which includes the scalp. Scalp massages have been a part of traditional massage therapies for centuries and in some cultures, it’s an integral part of grooming rituals. Asides from the very obvious benefits to relax and decompress, scalp spas can provide health benefits that extend a bit further. Scalp spas can determine your scalp type and even certain health conditions such as thinning hair, which could signal underlying conditions such as stress, hormonal changes, or nutritional deficiencies. Scalp infections, skin conditions, tension, tightness, and poor circulation can all be identified at SKA Scalp Spa.

SKA Scalp Spa is a small scalp spa located in downtown Boston. The scalp management process begins with an initial consultation, where they use a 200x microscope to thoroughly examine your scalp and follicles. The detailed assessment allows the specialists to identify any concerns or issues. Based on the findings, the scalp specialist will recommend the best treatment plan tailored to your specific needs. Personally, my diagnosis revealed a combination scalp, with red veining on the sides of my head, usually an indication of tension or high stress levels. (I blame my husband and military hair buns.) The professionals recommended a treatment plan to alleviate these symptoms that were impeding on my hair growth goals, and off we went.

I laid down on the table, my feet were propped, I was wrapped in a fuzzy blanket, and my eyes were covered with a comforting mask. We started with a few guided breathwork exercises, and I inhaled a waft of calming essential oils. She started with a firm scalp massage and then worked her way down my neck and shoulders, the massage lasted a while considering the diagnosis I received. After the massage she applied a deep cleansing scalp mask. While the mask was sitting, we moved onto one of my favorite parts of the ritual, my hair and scalp were wrapped into some sort and bag that steam entered. The cooling scalp mask combined with the warm steam was incredible. She did a deep cleaning and sorted through my hair with a fine-toothed comb. Because of my diagnosis and hair growth goals, I received two red light therapy treatments. We finished with a blow dry, but I assure you, I did not want it to end.
